All children who are 5 years of age on September 1 of the year of entrance can be enrolled in kindergarten. Kindergarten entrance tests should not determine enrollment into kindergarten. O Minnesota law requires children enrolled in school to be immunized against certain diseases unless the child is medically or non-medically exempt. It is the responsibility of the school to work with the family to ensure the child is screened within 30 days of starting kindergarten. O Children cannot be denied enrollment if a screening has not been completed. O Results of early childhood screening cannot be used to determine a child’s eligibility for kindergarten. O Families may conscientiously object by submitting a statement in writing to the school. O Early Childhood Screening is provided through school districts, or through a comparable screening from Head Start or a health care provider. O Your child can be screened between the ages of 3 and within 30 days of starting kindergarten. O Screening supports your child’s learning and promotes health and development. O Documentation may include a passport, a hospital birth record or physician's certificate, a baptismal or religious certificate, an adoption record, health records, immunization records, immigration records, previously verified school records, early childhood screening records, Minnesota Immunization Information Connection records, or an affidavit from a parent.
